Efficacy studies have shown that salt double-fortified with iodine and iron can significantly reduce the incidence rates of iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) and iodine-deficiency disorders.

Double-fortified salt (DFS) are often prepared by mixing microencapsulated iron compounds into conventionally iodated salt.
